I was going to jbod the two drives but decided to sacrifice 1tb of the 3tb total so i could raid0 them. ![]() The dock has it’s own USB controller in the Thunderbolt controller which is used instead of USB tunnelling when USB tunnelling is not supported (such as in the case of most or all Intel Macs).I just received my new OWC Thunderbolt (4) hub. I am unsure about this, but it may be that this dock uses USB tunnelling (a new feature of USB4) which connects the USB hub in the dock to the USB controller in the M1 Mac – that USB controller is known to have less performance than USB from the Thunderbolt ports of an Intel Mac. This is because all the ports and devices are USB and connected to a single USB port using a couple USB hubs. A printer has its USB/Ethernet input on the back next to the power cord I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to stick with this standard setup. Since I have a mac mini and the extra ports I use for SSD Backup drives, I have turned around the Hub and have the power input facing me along with the additional Ports. If one is strictly using this as a dock for a laptop, then I can see how that might be a good idea. (An M1 Mac Mini in my case.) the issue, is these two inputs are on opposite sides of the Hub. However there are two issues:There are two required inputs: power and the input that comes from the computer. By keeping it backwards the computer stays attached, but every time I look down and see the big power cable with that big ferrite ring, I am reminded of the poor design. When this is done the Computer is always disconnected when the USB cable falls out. With the thing turned about front ways, you have to lift up and turn around the hub to plug something in. The Extra Thunderbolt ports should be easy to get to. 2014 vp for macThe light on the top is fantastic.The USB Cable provided easily falls out.
